During distillation heat and water volatilize low molecular weight compounds like monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. These are aromatic. They enter the vapor phase and become essential oil. Boswellic acids do not. Their molecular weight is too high and they are not volatile. They stay locked in the resin matrix. What distilla
